If there’s one thing I wish every family knew before their session, it’s this: you do not have to get it right.

As a Baton Rouge family photographer, some of my favorite sessions happen when families stop worrying about posing perfectly and simply start being themselves.

I had a family once who showed up a little nervous. You could tell they were worried about standing the right way, making sure the kids behaved, and hoping everyone smiled at the same time. But then something changed.

They stopped focusing on the camera.

The kids started running around and laughing. Mom and Dad relaxed. They joked with each other. They interacted the way they normally would at home. And I just kept photographing those moments.

Those images? They ended up being their favorites.

You Don’t Have to Pose Perfectly

One of the biggest misconceptions about family photography in Baton Rouge is that you have to know how to pose.

Those are the moments worth preserving.

The Pressure to Be the “Perfect Family”

Parents put so much pressure on themselves before photo sessions.

Everyone wants matching outfits. Happy kids. Perfect smiles.

But perfect families do not exist.

And honestly? That version wouldn’t make for great photos anyway.

What makes sessions meaningful is what already exists between you. The connection. The personalities. The relationships.

You already have everything you need.

What I Want Families to Know Before Booking

When you book a session with me, I’m not expecting perfection.

I’m looking for connection.

So if your toddler runs around? We roll with it.

If someone gets silly? Even better.

If everyone laughs because something unexpected happens? Those often become the images families love most.

Because years from now, I don’t want you looking back at photos thinking about how perfectly everyone stood.
